chinese twins (by pbo31)

Happy Chinese New Year! It’s the year of the dragon, which is my brother’s year.

I remember being a kid, and being terrified that the 年 would snatch me away in the middle of the night if I didn’t wear enough red (or if the 年 thought my red shirt was actually a little pink-ish instead of being straight up red and, therefore, scary).

I also learned (or re-learned?) that 恭喜發財 is said because it translates to “Congratulations and be prosperous.” People basically congratulated each other on surviving the for another year. (ha, punny.)

Tonight was the first time I’d been able to spend Chinese New Year’s Eve with my family since high school (!). It feels good to be home.

Bellagio Conservatory 2011 Chinese New Year Exhibit - Year of the Rabbit (by Michael Contreras)

Oh, and Happy Chinese New Year! (I know it’s not very Chinese, using a picture from Bellagio, but the conservatory there is always gorgeous.)

It’s the Year of the Rabbit :3

ETA: One pro of moving back home after college is over - getting to finally eat hot pot with my family on Chinese New Year’s. I swear, every time my parents call to wish me a happy Chinese new year, I hear the gurgling hot pot in the back and it’s torture
